Governance should not be seen as a brake on innovation but as its structural backbone.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3af7b19 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3af7b19\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><b>AI Governance and the AI Act \u2013 compliance is just the beginning<\/b><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7a11c9a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7a11c9a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The European Union is the first region in the world to adopt a <strong>comprehensive law regulating artificial intelligence: the AI Act<\/strong>.<\/p><p>It introduces a risk-based approach, defining four categories of AI systems:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Unacceptable risk<\/strong> \u2013 for example, social scoring or behavioural manipulation; banned from February 2025.<\/li><li><strong>High risk<\/strong> \u2013 AI used in healthcare, HR, education, or finance; requires documentation, testing, and human oversight.<\/li><li><strong>Limited risk<\/strong> \u2013 such as chatbots; users must be informed when they\u2019re interacting with AI.<\/li><li><strong>Minimal risk<\/strong> \u2013 no specific obligations beyond general transparency.<\/li><\/ul><p>In practice, this means every organisation using AI must know which systems they operate, what level of risk each carries, and how they are controlled.<\/p><p>From 2025, the <strong>first prohibitions on \u201cunacceptable risk\u201d systems<\/strong> apply, alongside mandatory training for employees on safe and responsible AI use. Between 2026 and 2027, <strong>additional requirements for high-risk systems<\/strong> will come into force.<\/p><p>But compliance is only the starting point.
